Hi -

I was asked about carbon fiber as a material for making reeds.

I really don't know if it could be made to work or not. I suspect that
it is too brittle to vibrate in the musical frequencies, if one makes
it thin enough so that a force as weak as our breath can set it into
motion.

Then again, arundo donax is carbon-based fiber. Maybe someone with more
physics or materials engineering expertise can give a definitive answer.
