Reeds with larger openings generally play louder. How far can one push
this and still have something that is playable and worth listening to?

Dear List:
"Can everyome please play softer!"
I found myself yesterday at an orchestra rehearsal making this exact
request.
But it seems to be to avail: we seem to be playing louder and louder
these
days.So here's my question:how do we play loud and ... louder?
Besides using a microphone on my oboe or EH ,I have tried taking less
out of
the reed and favoring the silver Chudnow tubes over the gold for this
task.Any other suggestions?

Awaiting all suggestions!

Rgds,
