Have you seen the bassoon bocal adaptation with rubber O-rings? I imagine
that could be further developed to avoid damping effects, as with cork. I
haven't tried the system myself, but have heard from a few who say it makes
a nice difference. I should think the metal staples of Chudnow's would give
you all the energy transfer you can get. Vary the hardness of the rubber
rings to maximize the effect. As the rings become less resilient or
compressible it will become necessary to refine the tolerances of the
equipment.
