Using tubes with a high density (Grenadilla or some of the other rosewoods)
wooden "cork" would create very desirable and unusually intense resonances
in the reeds staple, resulting in enhanced projection. Just ask Alex Klein.
He used such stables when he had a source of them.

Unfortunately, the manufacturing such wooden "corks" involves tremendous
manufacturing problems. Klein's source stopped production soon after
starting it, finding their production to be grueling, frustrating, and
economically unviable.

It is one of my continuing projects to overcome or sidestep these problems.
I spoke to Mark Chudnow about the matter at the IDRS conference in Ithaca.
He agrees that a Grenadilla "cork" would be the cat's meow but has given up
on the matter due to what he perceives as insurmountable production
problems.
