I have used super-glue to seal/stop the occasional crack at the back of
bassoon reeds. It stops the crack, doesn't seem to interfere with vibration
at all, is well tolerated by skin, and lasts at least as long as the reed
itself. I now use a tiny dab of its more viscous form as a preemptive
sealant/stabilizer on the tube of reeds before I apply the "shrink" tubing.
I have not experienced any slippage since starting this technique, and it
definitely doesn't interfere with vibration.
Also, it tolerates a bit of moisture very well.
