I did not know of this. Bureaucracies are known to make big mistakes, and I
have first-hand knowledge of an incident that we all thought was a huge
mistake. After a lot of tsurris, and an expulsion etc., we finally learned
of our friend's direct complicity in the Chechnya mess, and strong Islamic
ties. In addition, the woman had lied about her marriage status on her
application for refugee status. What we all thought was a big and inhuman
mistake was ultimately born out in fact. The INS remained taciturn, and the
woman was ultimately returned here to her naturalized American citizen
husband and her 16 yr old resident alien daughter.
Did Ghuman have some spurious participation in politics beyond the usual
crap in academia? Did Ghuman have shaded truths on her application for
visa? There is much we do not know. I am no proponent of this government,
especially the INS, but in many cases we cannot see both sides of the coin.
The INS is not required to share information with us, and that does not
always indicate that they are indulging in nefarious behavior.
