Don=92t underestimate this lighted plaque business. I just got one and I
love it. The problem with holding your reed up against a 75W lamp is
that it=92s sort of a composite of both sides. You loose detail of each
blade. I mean, it gives you a pretty good idea, but shining the light
from the inside out, is a lot better.

Some cane is much more translucent, and some cane when wet, hardly shows
the differences of thicknesses. You can vary the strength of the light
and this helps in these two cases.

Some people might not want to know what their scrape looks like!

It=92s also very handy when you drop something in the pit, use it as a
flashlight, like I did tonight at Phantom of the Opera on Broadway!

Expensive flashlight, though!
