Dear Herb, Harold and All,
Atlanta is the home of Robert Shaw and his reputation as one of the finest=20
choral directors in the USA during his lifetime. His continuing influence=20=
is=20
very prevalent still among many of the more affluent churches in the metro=20
area...particularly those that can afford semi-professional choirs (there a=
re=20
lots). The scores reflect his fancy for the more traditional approach to=20
church music and classical free lancers can pay the rent. Local Bachies al=
l own=20
instruments that pitch at 440 (a necessity if you have a mortgage in Atlant=
a).
On the other side of the pew are the plethora of African-American churches=20
here that beat their own drums in praise using primarily keyboard, percussi=
on=20
and electric guitar. Granted gospel is a long way from Purcell but it gets=
=20
the job done just as efficiently! :-)

I hear a lot of "rockin' with JC". I suppose it is easier to play guitar
and drums that it is to play organ or to assemble an orchestra. Whatever
gets "His" attention!
