Harold,

A pretty broad question! I think it can be said in general that "good music" is
in use in churches in the USA, and while there is a lot of "praise" or
"innovative"(in the pejorative sense) music, there is a lot of good new music
being composed in addition to the use of the "standard" music.

I happen to be an Episcopalian, and in our denomination the entire spectrum of
music is to be found. I was a professional chorister as a boy, so I am most
comfortable with Anglican tradition of singing and music. Happily, my parish
employs a broad range of classical Anglican music, Taize for one of the monthly
Evensong services (Evensong is one of the great contributions of the Anglican
tradition to liturgical music), the use of new liturgical music, and
instrumental music on occasion. I also happen to live in the Washington, DC
area, an hotbed of great choral music.
