Harold,
I suspect that your suspicions may be confirmed. The hot "music" novel
this summer is Jonathan Lethem's You Don't Love Me Yet, the story (sex,
drugs and rocn'n roll) of of an indy band and their travails. I picked
the book out because it looked interesting.
Sara read it and warned me, "it has a lot of sex."
"I can handle that," I replied.
The book turned out to be hilarious, and realistic--in the surrealistic
way of rock'n roll. The rumor is that it's about a real, Brooklyn indy band.
There were places in the novel where my stomach clenched up as I
realized how ephemeral a good performance really is--and how much our
coaches help up with their musical advice and managerial expertise.
