Hi -
Partially in response to Harold's asking about the lack of activity,
here's a technical question that I'm currently wondering about: when to
use the normal fingerings for the two notes A# and B, and when to use
one of the alternatives.
I've been spending some time working on the normal, which involves
placing or removing the left middle finger and the right index finger
at the same time. The slightest deviation causes an intermediate note
(either A or C). I find it difficult to keep this interval clean,
especially at higher velocities.
Do folks tend to learn and use the alternates for different situations,
for example, in F# major, always using the A# with left index, ring and
pinky (leaving the A-key open) version? It doesn't sound as good as the
normal A# on my oboe.
What A#-B is the favorite for chromatic runs? The B which is fingered
like a C but with the A-flat key added?
Or is the 'normal' version something that just really should be
mastered.
