Greetings!
OctOBOEfest is back! What is OctOBOEfest, you ask? OctOBOEfest is a
weekend (October 12-14, 2007) for all featuring:
Major artists in concerts
Master classes
Oboe exhibits & Vendors
Raffles
College and high school solo competition (The Midwest Oboe Competition)
Double reed ensemble participation
Founded in 1991 by Mark Weiger, Professor of Oboe at The University of Iowa,
OctOBOEfest is held every other year at UI.
This year concert artists include Mark Weiger, Alan Huckleberry(piano),
Gordon Hunt, Clapp Maia String Quartet and various guest artists.
Master Classes by: Gordon Hunt, Peter Cooper & Dick Woodhams.

Living here in central Iowa (Des Moines) I've been to many OctOBOEfests in
years past. I'm a busy "50-something" adult amateur-- principal in Des
Moines' Community Orchestra, oboist for a wind quintet, and I dabble in
various other ensembles. My bassoonist husband goes with me to these, and
while it is essentially OctOBOEfest(and not OctBASSOONfest), we both find
that we've learned something each time. 2005's Master Class with Alex Klein
left us wishing that we'd brought the entire wind quintet with us (it was
about the MUSIC, and not just oboe technique)! For us, it's worth the
two-and-a-half hour drive each way, easily! Mark your Calendars!
