Subj: [DR-L] Beverly Sills' passing
Date: Thu, 05 Jul 2007 03:14:47 -0400

Hello, Everyone.

I thought it might be a happier way to remember the
passing of the great soprano, by looking at her visit to
the Muppets TV Show in 1979. She engages in such
profound activities as learning to hang a spoon from
her nose with Gonzo, and rehearsing her role in the
famous dramatic opera "Pigoletto" with Miss Piggy!
(She was also a mother, so doing comical things that
her children could enjoy, makes perfect sense to me.)

We will remember the unique coloratura of Beverly
Sills forever!

I also hope that all Americans have had a Happy
4th of July (or our tacky "Insurrection", as our
British friends call it).

Oh, and on June 27, 2007, I finished the "Largo:
Triple Fugue" second movement of my Oboe
Concerto, for a total time of 10' 42". There are Solos
for: each wind instrument, each First Chair Solo
String Player, the Harpist, and each String Section.
It is my 4th work to contain Triple Fugues in Original,
my 3rd to contain them in Retrograde, and my 2nd to
contain them in Inversion and Retrograde-Inversion.
I also threw in 3 more "QDS" Fugues ("Quadruple
Directional Stretto Fugues" that overlap the four
directions of a melody in Tonal harmony) based on
each of the Three Fugue Subjects. Now I've gotta
get back to work. I'm trying to see if it's possible
to write a "QDM Fugue" (a Quadruple Directional
Muppet Fugue"), but I can't figure out how to hang
the spoons in it.
