Harold,
There is a Latin American Baroque chamber music society in the SF Bay area;
I have played a couple of concerts with them. I loved the music, although
most of the stuff on the concerts I played was primarily vocal. It was
definitely Brazilian in flavor, and featured such styles as modinho and
choros. Just offhand, I cannot remember the name of the oboist who was
involved, but he now plays EH in one of the larger orchestras in Tennessee.
I knew him here in SF as a terrific oboist and a fine pianist, and a
graduate from Curtis while Schoenbach was still teaching there. I was
pleasantly surprised by the instrumental music as it was definitely baroque,
but had an unmistakable and unique SA character. More and more things drop
from quick memory, and the composers' names are among them. Our stuff
included two clarinets, two bassoons, a horn or two and two trumpets. The
rest was either fretted strings and /or piano with voice. Very lovely.
I don't know what sort of search would get you to the group.
Best,
Herb
