I used to use the bassoon as a 'quasi-weapon'. After going through army
basic training, I was able to do the 15 count Manual of Arms (that fancy thing
you see military types in dress uniform doing with their rifles) with the
bassoon. It was not meant to be a weapon, but during one demonstration of this,
I took out a few light bulbs in a wall sconce in the hallway of a rather
fancy hotel in Chicago. (I didn't realize how high the bassoon went when it was
resting on my shoulder).

Then there's always the 2nd remark that bassoonists hate (the first being:
"Is that a oboe?"): "That looks like a bazooka!"
