Dear List:
My life in the tropics brings me again(after almost 2 years away) to the
capital of the Amazon:Manaus.
Visiting --despite my fears--the "flooded rainforrest" (a few months each
year the river floods it) in a motor -powered canoe,I encounter in the local
souvenir shop flutes--but they could be oboes or bassoons--used as well to
shoot arrows and with piranha tooth heads!
We know that in the history of instrument making,many oboes and bassoons(?)
were also designed as lamps and other pieces of furniture.But weapons?
Await all responses with eagerness...and anxiety!
