From: ContraReed@-----.com Subj: [DR-L] Baroque Oboe & Clarinet Camp Questions Date: Sat, 02 Jun 2007 21:22:49 -0400
Hey everybody, I was asked a couple of questions today and I'm not sure
exactly where to go for answers, so I figured this was as good a place to ask as
any.
First, an acquaintance who is a part-time church organist is now retired
from a 'day-job', and would like to learn the Baroque oboe. He played oboe when
he was in school, but is only interested now in playing Baroque oboe. I'm
not sure whether Baroque oboe would be considered a 'beginner's instrument' or
not (I would assume there were beginners on it in the Baroque era). He
lives in south-central PA - any ideas where he might be able to find a teacher
and instrument? I remember seeing a handful at IDRS conventions - would it be
worth his while to venture to Ithaca (?) for the convention this year?
Second, a good friend resumed playing the clarinet a few years ago after a
hiatus of 25 years. She's been taking lessons, plays in a couple of community
bands & chamber groups, and recently bought an R-13 - (she had outgrown her
advanced student model). She's heard me talk about Bassoon Camp, and would
like to attend something similar for clarinet (not a training ground for
hot-shot students, but rather adults who are serious about playing but not
competitive). She knows it's probably too late for this summer, but is thinking
about next summer. Any suggestions for her?
Please respond privately, so as not to tie up the list,
Thanx,
Richard Spittel
