Subj: [DR-L] stretching exercises for doublereeders?
Date: Sat, 02 Jun 2007 05:20:43 -0400

I am just completing a session of physiotherapy for my right wrist, which I
injured from over-use ,the heavy english horn and carrying two heavy
instruments around when my bag on wheels broke down. The treatment (---given
by a lovely blonde and brunette by the way) includes the use of ice wrapped
around the wrist, plus ultra-sound treatment. In the past and present it
(has) worked.I also believe in homeopathic medicine and found a magic
mixture in this so-called third world nation which I have used with fine
results. It includes(if this means anything to anyone): betula, belladona,
,ruta,rhus tox,mentol andand canfora(camphur?).
What most of us suffer today is a result of playing the oboe/bn/eh but
over- or misuse of the computer's keyboard.A special keyboard has helped in
the past.
Tendinitis? Some called it in the past rheumatism.
But really the young string players are on the right track with stretching
exercises for the hand and wrist and body BEFORE playing. Athletes do it all
the time? Why not musicians? (Can only guess that Tabateau,on the oboe and
whomever on the bassoon was the great teacher never emphasized or knew about
it,so one generation to another never tried to try something new)
