Hey David,
I met Wayne when he came to Euclid High School ( where I was teaching
in Ohio) when he was a member of the Marine Band. I had a junior high
colleague playing in the band at that time.and he introduced us. I had
a few lessons with him years ago at Oberlin College when my husband was
doing a summer program there. That's when he told me about the name
change. It came from his brother , the then first trumpet of the
Louisville Orchestra, whose daughter was entering her teens and they
were hoping to head off a certain amount of teasing, harrassment etc.
Wayne got the BSO job after that.
The last time I saw him was at the IDRS convention in Greensboro, NC. I
thought that he didn't look very well at that time. . . alas. . . .
as ever,
