If you're having any kind of pain, the right therapist can give you good
stretches and stengtheners for your particular situation.

I had a brief fling with tendinitis in my wrists and I had assumed that I
would be instructed to squeeze a ball or something to strengthen. I was
surprised when I was told to never, ever do that kind of exercise because it
would make my problems worse. The exercises I do are the opposite of
squeezing a ball- I flex my hands open against resistance (a rubber band).

A stretch that I really like that could benefit anyone whose hands spend too
much time in a curled/closed position: spread your fingers apart as much as
you can, stretching your hand. Place your hand, fingers spread, flat on a
wall at shoulder height out to your side. Make sure to feel your whole hand,
especially your index finger knuckle, pressing into the wall. Try it, it
feels great!
