From: David Weiss <weiss440@-----.com> Subj: [DR-L] Beverly Hills Music Festival -- oboists, last call Date: Mon, 14 May 2007 18:26:12 -0400
Dear Oboists,
JUST OVER 2 WEEKS remain until the deadline (June 1) -- If you are =20
interested, please act soon! Thank you. Here below is the posting =20
that some of you may have seen about a month ago:
The Beverly Hills International Music Festival is in it=92s 4th year of =20=
existence, and is fast becoming recognized for its outstanding =20
quality. This summer will be my first as a faculty member. During the =20=
10-day period, August 3-13, oboe students will each have three =20
private lessons, plus chamber music coaching by some of the very best =20=
teachers/players in the Los Angeles area. The orchestra will rehearse =20=
and perform a variety of works, including Beethoven 1st Symphony. In =20
addition, there will be several faculty recitals and a couple of =20
student recitals as well. The venue is the beautiful and historic =20
Beverly Hills Presbyterian Chuch right in the heart of Beverly Hills. =20=
Despite a rather full schedule, there will still be some time left =20
over for sight-seeing, and perhaps even a trip to the beach.
If you haven=92t already made your summer plans and would like to be =20
involved in this program, I urge you to apply. There are currently =20
openings for four oboe players. The program is designed for high =20
school, college, and young professionals (age 16-30+), and includes =20
individual lessons, master classes, and orchestral training. Students =20=
will have the opportunity to perform solo works as well as =20
participate in wind quintets and chamber orchestra repertoire. If you =20=
have any questions, feel free to write me back and I=92ll respond right =20=
away. Deadline for applications is June 1, 2007. Scholarships exist, =20
but are very limited. An audition CD or videotape should include =20
three contrasting works. Approximately 5-7 minutes total of music is =20
sufficient. You do not have to play complete movements, and you do =20
not need to use an accompanist. It is not necessary to make your =20
audition recording in a professional studio =96 just be sure that there =20=
isn=92t too much reverb (don=92t record in your bathroom!), and be sure =20=
to test your CD or video on a different player from which it was =20
recorded before sending it in.
Application fee: $100
Tuition: $1200
If you don=92t live in the Los Angeles area: Deeply discounted hotel =20=
accommodations are provided by the Residence Inn by Marriott, Beverly =20=
Hills (with 3 meals per day) $1090 per person, double occupancy. =20
Plans for hotel with breakfast only, and/or single occupancy rooms =20
are available. Please check out the website: www.bhmusicfestival.org
Thank you!
