Mr. Peaceman,

My comment was meant to raise the point that the bleating of sheep should
not be misconstrued as educated, or even informed consensus. As Trotsky was
quite clear in saying, and I paraphrase: every revolution has revealed that
the proles freed by it are unable and unqualified to rule themselves. Our US
constitution accommodates this by establishing the electoral college. There
are good arguments on both sides of that issue and I am always waiting for
more information.
I am not disillusioned by my own level of intelligence, and I realize that
there are many on either side of the mean in that particular bell-curve. If
it is reasonable to quantify such a thing, at least I know the number
associated with my level for whatever the value of that. No delusions.
It seems unwise to yield decisions to the highly alarmed sheep, when the
decision is such a complex problem. Sheep - grass - wolf - that's about the
complexity level for sheep competency.
If you equate arrogance with an unwillingness to be led or regulated by
timorous and bathetic sheep, I guess you are right. Isn't that comforting?
Best,
Herb
