Your idea is not totally silly.

Consider, the early courts weren't exactly democracies. Some of the
leaders were pretty ruthless.
And they dressed flashy, too.

There might very well be interesting ways of dramatizing the "true
context" of early music more vividly, e.g., a Medici poisoning with an
accompanying madrigal. Or maybe some sort of deck-out rapping/rhyming
master-of-ceremonies talking about the behind the scenes action between
the works.
