Harold asked for some program detail for my upcoming
recital, so here it is!
My program is:
Variations on a Theme of Paganini Frank Campo
Thirteen Aphorisms and a Summary
Marshall Bialosky
Fantasy on Days .
Rod Butler
all three of these works are for solo oboe. The Campo
is a tonal but
highly chromatic set of sectional variations on the
famous theme from
the 24th caprice. The Bialosky is a largely atonal
work that features some extended techniques (including
multiphonics, glissando, 1/4 tones, and singing and
playing in counterpoint) The Butler is a virtuoso
fantasy on the Mancini "Danys of Wine and Roses"
BG MG
Jonathon Grasse
SA BA
Jonathon Grasse
RJ RJ
Jonathon Grasse
This is a set of three "Letters from Brazil" for oboe
and classical guitar (RJ RJ is for oboe d'amore). This
is the premere of these pieces
Dialogues II
Frank Campo
This is the second performance of this new work for
oboe and piano. Campo's music is very rhythmic, often
featuring asymmetrical meter. This is a tonal, but at
times highly chromatic work
Ten Jewish Melodies
Marshall Bialosky
This is a lovely setting of 10 traditional Jewish
melodies for solo English horn
Sonatina for Oboe and Piano
Marshall Bialosky
This three movement work reminds me of the sonata for
oboe and piano that Bernstein never wrote.
