Subj: [DR-L] Ponchielli for oboe and piano
Date: Sun, 08 Apr 2007 12:20:01 -0400

Dear Sunday List:
Happy Easter and the remainder of Passover!
I have been peforming with piano lately and having a lot of fun with
"Capriccio"by Almicare Ponchielli, the same Italian composer who wrote the
famous ballet music which became a vulgar American pop song.
A listener described the opus as the "opera which the composer never
wrote, instead made into a Capriccio for oboe and piano."
It is dedicated to Cesare Confalonieri and would make a great work for oboe
and orch,if it was orchestrated with themes which rank in the same class as
Puccini and technical variations worthy of Pasculli.
Any feedback on this work welcome .
Are there any solo bn. works by Ponchielli as well?
Rgds,

Harold Emert
