Miriam and List,
I know an oboist who was very diligent about brushing her teeth and rinsing
well immediately before playing, every single time. A white chalky residue
started to form on the inside of her oboe. Yep- it was toothpaste. It was a
case of either too much diligence, or not rinsing quite as thoroughly as she
thought she was.
The white residue never hindered her playing, and I'm sure an annual visit
with a bore brush and a little oil would have kept it at bay (not intending
to start the to-oil-or-not-to-oil debate).
~Angela
