I remember Elden Gatwood (at the time, 2nd oboe in Cleveland) telling me
that forked f without the Eb key was the darkest, best sounding note on
his Loree and he wished he could match the rest of his oboe to it .
This was the voice of Lifschey's 2nd oboe!!!!
