Subj: [DR-L] Tuining Oboe's forked F
Date: Mon, 02 Apr 2007 07:31:52 -0400

Dear List:
A query to start off the week for oboists:how are you tuning your forked F
these days?
Traditionally the forked F has never been fully in tune, usually it --by my
experience--is sharp.I was taught in the ole country to put part of a cork
in the hole below the Eb key(which opens and closes when the E(R2) key is
press--with R1 and R3 held down) ,The cork, usually half size but
occasionally bigger, should have a little pierced hole in it's midsection.
Loree has a screw to adjust the level of the forked F but I still have never
adapted or been able to tune my forked F with this innovation.
The ystem described above--with the cork--tunes the note but has never
given this oboist the sound he has desired.
Any other solutions?
A fine week to all.

Rgds,

Harold Emert
