I wonder about the dimension of the claimed "shrinkage" too. Does the entire
tube shrink so that the bore gets smaller? That would cause flatness. Does
the wall thickness lessen? That would change the bore:length ratio and
could cause sharpness. Does the wall swell, making the bore smaller?
Wouldn't one notice that from the way the joints fit or the reed sits in the
well? Bore dimension can be checked with bore reamers and other gauges.
There must be seasoned wood somewhere. One can get walnut and others for
rifle stocks which will no longer distort with moisture.(unless you soak
them)
