I have been using the AK Loree Royal models since I starting playing on
these lovely "new" oboes,or 1997.Can assure you that AK,whatever it means
and stands for, is a lovely instrument.

I'm under the impression that the "AK" indicate that the bore of
the bell and the top joint are similar to that employed in Loree
oboes whose serial numbers began with the letters "AK".

The bells of these instruments have 2 conic sections with an abrupt
transition instead of the more gradual and rounded out bore of
the regular Loree's.

Back in the mid 90's I bought an "AK" bell from Forrests which
fit quite well on my CZ and EP series oboes and changed the nature
of the sound rather towards the newer AK instruments.

I'm now playing on a more recent Royal (non-AK) oboe, and I note
with interest that it, too, has the two distinct conic sections in
its bell.
