From playing, simply from playing.

I am sure bassoons play differently over time, as well. Clarinets do, but
since their bores are larger, it's something that takes a good deal longer.
But for the record, I use a feather. A friend of mine has a McCaw parrot and
gives me a batch of tail feathers periodically.
