After reading the Keillor piece the first time a few years ago I have
constantly tried to corroborate the point about the oboe and
procreative-impulses.... unfortunately he appears to be completely off
base. Though I haven't actually been keeping statistics, my impression
is that the saxaphone the instrument used for these scenes. The oboe and
english horn seem to be used mostly during pastoral fade ins and fade
outs... no women or men, just a lot of birds, trees, red clouds and sun.
:-

I remember back when I was at the Manitou-Wabing Arts and Sports Center
about 200 miles north of Toronto in the summer of 1972, a girl who
everyone was crazy about said something to me about what the sound of
the baritone sax did for her... I won't repeat it. Needless to say, I
sure wished I could play bari at that moment :-(

Anyone here know the place? I met and played 2nd oboe to David
Teitelbaum of Laubin Oboe fame that summer there.

Matthew
