Louis Untermeyer once attended a New Year's Eve costume party. As he
unleashed several festive bursts on a musical horn, the celebrated poet was
approached by a concerned student. After briefly glancing at his paper hat and funny
costume, she turned away with a contemptuous snort. "And he," she cried, "is
required reading!"
