My, you've opened a can of... butterflies. (I find worms too icky to think
about.)
All shapes are good. It's just a question of for whom. :-)
I tried only four other shapes before settling on a Joshua +2. I *could*
continue to try out different shapes and probably find one (or some) that
are better than what I have, or at least better in different ways. And I
probably will at some point. It's a matter of drawing the line somewhere for
now. The hunt for the perfect shape could make a person crazy.
I found the Gilbert shapes to be too narrow. You can probably find people
who say they're too wide. But, if you're looking for narrow, I think they
would be a good place to start.
I sell gouged and folded shaped cane, but only on a Joshua +2.
(www.reedery.com) I just got a pound of Le choix du Roseau Chantant that I
really like and highly recommend trying. You can also buy it from Le Roseau
in Canada: http://www.le-roseau.ca/index.php
Good luck!
~Angela
