Hello Miriam (et al) no, you only need to put your reeds in the oboe reed
case and put that case inside the ziplock bag provided. Zip it up and you
are off and running. I have used these reed vitalizers for 2 orchestra
seasons and they are terrific in keeping my reeds healthier. Sincerely,
