The Wall Street Journal has an interesting article on
the current classical orchestral scene - what seems to
not work and what (education?) could possibly help -
stating that 74% of most ticket-buyers either played
an instrument at some point, or sang in a choir.

P.S. For Richard Ramey - a most articulate,
informative masterclass incorporating analysis and
performance, was given by John Mack at the Tallahassee
IDRS Conference a few years ago. He made such musical
sense in describing the harmonic relation to WHY he
performed a passage, etc. You might want to find out
if there's a recording of this class from that
particular conference?!
