> Richard,

I am not a double reed teacher, but I am a retired university
professor of low brass students. Analysis has been an integral part
of my teaching as I believe it is the only way you can teach a
student the "why" of making musical decisions. I feel so strongly
about its importance that I have written a book called "A Composer's
Guide to Understanding Music". This book discusses the components of
music from the viewpoint of how and why a composer may use them and
then it has separate activities for listeners, interpreters and
composers so they can practice what they have learned. It goes beyond
form and harmonic analysis as it contains other interpretive factors
to consider. If you or anyone is interested in learning more about
the book, you can visit cooppress.hostrack.net and click on the book
cover that appears on the home page.
