Alcohol is marginal as a sterilizing agent, but it is effective as a
cleaner. It can have a drying effect, but at least it is not an oxidizing
agent nor a digestive agent for cellulose. I doubt that anything serious
would survive a dip in 100 proof Smirnoff and that would taste a lot better
than the usual rubbing alcohol. There is also 150 proof Rum, if that is more
to one's liking. They all taste better than CHX, and the reed making gets
easier as the hour progresses.
