If the ABO were my orchestra I would want to know was the concert really a
great one or merely mediocre? Did the critic hit upon something that really
should have been better?
Even big musicians with big credentials can sometimes put-on mediocre
performances; they are human beings, after all.
If the concert was great; you can feel good about in no matter what the critic
says. Your audience will know it was great, too.
But if there was some truth to what the critic said, it is going to be
painful, even if he is a forest ranger.
I wish I had a baroque orchestra in my back yard, even a plain one. Good
