Lots of interesting comments!
I haven't read the review in question, nor attended the concert. But is
it really possible that the folks who attended are going to change
their opinion based on what they read in the papers the next day? If
music really "touches" people, that is a solid experience, and becomes
the standard by which the critic's comments are judged!
I think that repeat business matters a lot more than the type of new
interest generated by a review or an ad campaign. If one doesn't have
people coming back for more (and preferably, bringing friends),
eventually the well runs dry, even with good reviews.
