Subj: [DR-L] My kingdom for a screw!
Date: Wed, 11 Oct 2006 05:24:29 -0400

Good morning List:
I must pass this one on because it's taken me so many years to learn about
the importance of screws that maybe this will benefit someone out there in
Dreed cyberspace.
After years of requests,I finally received two complete set of screws for
my oboes and EH about a month ago. None of the bigshot repairmen had ever
suggested the order to me--the idea came from a so-called little guy in the
tropics of this so-called capital of soccer and Carnival,Rio de Janeiro.
I have changed by now--actually my wiz changed--the ageing screws on
one oboe and my 40 year old plus EH and am amazed ,really amazed at the
difference for sealing and reaction and even tuning on the instruments. Was
amazed and how worn out and almost finished many these screws were!
Why didn't I think of this before?
We oboists are always messing with the screws to adjust them as the
time goes on or the climate or whatever changes. With new screws the
stability is really incredible.
Food for thought today. What do you think David Crispin Edison?
My kingdom for...a scew?
Best wishes,

Harold Emert

PS--Delmar Williams writes me from Frankivsk where he is painting the
town.Where is this???
