Subj: [DR-L] Bassoonist Morris Newman
Date: Tue, 10 Oct 2006 10:21:36 -0400

I just received the very sad news that New York
bassoonist Morris Newman died early Monday morning,
October 9th. He had been quite ill for many months. He
was 80 years old.

To quote one of his friends, Abba Bogin, "in addition
to his wonderful bassoon and recorder playing, Morris
was a warm and kind soul, with a happy attitude, a
perpetual smile, and a warm and caring heart. He was a
most interesting conversationalist and had a brilliant
sense of humor."

Morris had a major freelance career for many years
here in New York - performing principal bassoon for
the Musica Aeterna Orchestra, as well as many other
ensembles.

He was a great friend and will be missed. Peace, Jim
