From: "Miriam Williams" <mwquacker@-----.net> Subj: [DR-L] ear surgery: report Date: Mon, 09 Oct 2006 12:19:48 -0400
I'd like to report that my ear draining surgery went well, although I wish I
hadn't had to have it done.
And I'd like to include a warning to any of you who might have to undergo
myringotomy due to fluid blocking the ear canal.

Your hearing will be affected in that certain sounds will be sort of buzzy
for about a week or so until you adapt and the ear drum starts to heal. At
both band and orchestra warm-ups, the French Horns seemed to cause the most
irritation. I had the surgery just a week ago, and things are nearly normal
now. I wish I'd had it done sooner, but was hoping medication would solve
the problem (even tried homeopathy, but only bc my friend is a homeopath and
generously gave me remedy). I will let my otolaryngologist and audiologist
know that if they have a musician come in with a similar problem, they
should time the surgery so they can have at least a week before the dress
rehearsal if at all possible.
It's so good to be able to hear clearly again!
Miriam
