Dear Jackie, I am sorry, but you misunderstood my point. My point was
That the matter was discussed in an open forum, who had been approached.
And how .. Etc not whether they had auditioned or not. The process was not
In question, but the fact, that someone had been approached, is I believe,
A confidential matter between that person, and the orchestral management
Concerned. Say, for example, this person had been approached, and rejected
it, for
What ever reason. Sometimes, the mere fact that they had considered
Leaving, or had even discussed it, could jeopardise their current position
It would probably have been better kept as a discussion between those
Concerned. This is my personal feeling and not meaning to reprimand or
Offend anyone.

That sounds to me, Geoff, as though the orchestras in your country
Approach the people they are interested. Am I wrong? Have I
Misunderstood? In this country, vacancies are publicized and players
Submit letters, expressing their interest in auditioning for the
Job. They might be accepted to the auditions straightaway or asked
To submit audio tapes for further consideration. This helps the
Orchestras in narrowing down the numbers of people showing up for the
Audition. There are several rounds, then, of auditions:
Preliminaries
Semi-finals
Finals

Those in the Finals might be asked to spend a week rehearsing and
Performing with the orchestra before a decision is made. That seems
To be the US way, in its simplest form.
