Hi, everyone,
Thanks to Gerry Corey on the fascinating bit of information
concerning John Grant. My first bassoon teacher, Chris Holdcraft,
turned me on to him as a supplier of blanks as I started to learn the
art of reedmaking. I was in 6th grade at that time and it all seemed
so mysterious (still does).
I always liked how he would write such extensive letters to his
customers, many times, with hand-drawn examples of how to trim the
reeds. I think at the time, I was paying $1.50 per blank. I still
have the old reeds (well, I still have every reed that I've ever made
or played on but that's a whole other crazy story)..
