I think that the problem is just that people are too lazy to change the
subject line, or don't think to change it, once the conversation veers off
topic.

Most unfortunate but oftentimes how it happens on email lists.

Subject: [DR-L] Request for sticking to subject line

Hi -

From my "digest" (see below), I thought I received one political
comment, and seven pertaining to the Mozart Oboe Quartet.

I've made myself clear in the past that I'm okay with political
discussions here. But I do find it disappointing to discover that NONE
of the emails purporting to be about Mozart had anything to do with
Mozart. Wouldn't it have been better if the posts were all under the
subject "ww's to Middle East"?.

The fact that the entire history of the discussion was included in the
reply, when only a snippet would be needed to establish context or
relevance, seems to me an indication of distinct hastiness or laziness,
and I find myself wondering if the "thinking" behind these statements
is likewise.

Unfortunately for me, I can't just delete, as I receive my messages in
digest form.
