Thanks Grace...sure I'd love to read it but if you've seen the award winning
Brazilian film "City of God,"with all its shootups among the druggiekids and
traffickers you've seen it all.You couldn't pay me to make a trip to the
favelas... although I've been there for Michael Jackson-Spike Lee's shooting
a video in one and for the visit of Prince Charles to another,
Worse or equal to any slum I knew in back "home" NYC.
Which brings back --speak memory--the day which I will never forget when an
orchestra we had in NYC played in the streets of Bedford Stuyvesant a
Beethoven Piano Concerto and the Overture Russlanda whatever it is.The
slumdwellers loved classical music invading their neighborhood so much that
someone threw a brick from the rooftop and hit my bassoonist Richard R. If
it hadn't hit him, yours truly would have suffered the concussion he
sustained and eventually overcame --I hope--with the years.
So much for romantic visions of slums/favelas!
