* "I just wondered if a bagpipe might have made it to the hills of
Kentucky, attracted a lot of hostility from the Indians (who would
otherwise have been predisposed to welcome less boisterous newcomers,
I'm sure) and was quickly abandoned. .. although, I would have thought
that if you wanted to clear an area of hostiles, unfamiliar to the
sound of it, a bagpipe cutting through the early morning mist would be
just the job. If I were an Injun, I'd be the first to scalp the bagpiper."
