Hi -

On this topic, I earlier asked if a wider reed shape might require less air
pressure (hence be less fatiguing).

I came up with the following argument that this might be the case:
Wider blades will be more responsive to the bernoulli forces that close a
reed down than a narrower shape, as the "wings" are larger. Thus perhaps less
actual wind might be needed to create the same amount of "lift."

I'm assuming one uses a wider diameter tube so that the opening isn't
humongous with the wider shape, and that the scrape is such that it is roughly
equivalent in resilience to a narrower reed.

Maybe the difference between a "2" shape and a "1" is not particularly
significant. But it seems worth a try if it can be used to make an acceptable reed
that doesn't fatigue one quite as quickly. I buy the cane and commence with the
experiment tomorrow!
