Fourth of July

Fireworks are bursting,=20
Lighting up the sky;=20
Lots of pretty colors
Celebrate Fourth of July.

Crowds of people watching,=20
Children covering their ears;=20
Most of them are smiling, =20
Some are showing tears.

The noise can be quite frightening
For it can be rather loud;=20
But the colors are delightful,=20
Appreciated by the crowd.

Celebrating independence
And showing national pride;=20
Our country=E2=80=99s precious freedom
Earned by countrymen who died.

Remember to be thankful
For the ones who serve us now;=20
They work to keep our safety
And we owe it to them to be proud.

-Gail Grierson, a very young and aspiring American poet
